Minelab Metal Detectors

Metal detecting is a fun and possibly profitable hobby that can be practiced by people of all ages. Whether you are a treasure hunter, a history buff or just someone who is looking for the ring you lost, a metal detector can point you in the right direction. When it comes to metal detectors, Minelab is one of the top brands to consider. These advanced, effective detectors have a reputation for looking deeper into the ground than any other brand.

Metal detecting as a hobby continues to grow in popularity. Whether you are searching for bits of treasure on the beach, at a historical site or even in your own back yard, there are few other activities that match metal detecting for anticipation and excitement. However, using a cheap or poor quality detector can make the whole experience frustrating instead of fun. Starting out with a good quality instrument like those manufactured by Minelab will ensure a more satisfying experience.

Minelab is definitely a leader in the market and preferred by long-time users. They tend to cost a little more than other brands, but you can count on better technology and more innovative features. Minelab metal detectors are known for their ability to look more deeply underground. This is primarily due to the extra-long coil used in their instruments. Many models are equipped with an LCD screen to monitor status and operation. Audible signals can be configured to alert the user to specific shapes and materials.

Minelab has been manufacturing metal detectors for the professional and hobbyist market since 1985. By placing equal emphasis on reaching both personal users and commercial operations, they were able to implement technological innovations not previously seen in hobbyist detectors. Their development has paid off especially in terms of accuracy. Remember, the detector only tells you where something is-you still have to dig it up. And you don’t want to waste time digging up trash.

Although new Minelab detectors can be somewhat pricey, there are always several models available at online auction sites like eBay. So after you have done your research, take a look at the models offered and watch the bids. This will help you learn to spot the bargains when they come along.

What Does the Barnes & Noble Nook Have that Amazon’s Kindle Doesn’t?

When it comes to ebook readers, it would seem that Amazon’s Kindle has a lock on the market. However, other manufacturers, including Barnes & Noble, Sony and others, beg to differ. Let’s take a closer look at the Barnes & Noble Nook series. Does the Nook have what it takes to set itself apart from the Kindle and capture a part of the increasingly hot ereader market?

In terms of physical properties, the Nook is somewhat thicker and heavier than the Kindle. Although they look quite similar, the physical keyboard found on the Kindle is missing on the Nook. Instead, B&N has chosen a secondary screen that allows users to navigate and make selections.

Under the hood, Nook is powered by Google’s Android operating system. Theoretically at least, this gives the Nook an edge in being able to run additional apps to enhance user experience. You’ll also find a microSD slot hidden away behind the battery cover, giving the Nook virtually unlimited storage (limited only by how many memory cards you want to carry around). The Nook can handle a variety of formats, most notably the EPUB format that Kindle has so far shunned.

The Nook has navigation controls on either side of the reading pane, similar to the Kindle. There is also a headphone jack and USB jack. One of the main features that differentiate the Nook from the Kindle is the touchscreen navigation below the reading pane. Although it really adds to the looks of the ereader, many users have found the system frustratingly slow and counter-intuitive. Whether this is a problem for all users or a learning curve for former Kindle users remains to be seen.

Is the Nook serious competition for the Kindle? With its Android operating system and support of popular ebook formats, the Nook brings some serious strengths to the table. Whether or not there is room for it in the market will only be determined in time by the buyers.

A Quick Look at the iPod Touch 4th Generation

If you’re looking for the latest iPod Touch (who can keep up with model releases from Apple?), then you should be looking for the iPod Touch 4th generation. It’s amazing how many features Apple is able to pack into each new model. We loved the slim and sleek look. Storage is not a problem with 64 GB of memory onboard. Regardless of your favorite media-movies, photos, music or videos-you’ll have plenty of room to take them along. The large screen and integrated speakers make movie watching enjoyable.

Of course, storage isn’t worth much if a device runs too slowly. Good thing that’s not a problem with the iPod Touch. Apps load quickly and run well. Web browsing has been accelerated and there’s no more waiting to scroll the site. Wireless connectivity includes both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It comes standard with the Safari browser, but you can download and install your favorites. Other preinstalled applications include Facebook and YouTube. As long as you can find a wireless connection, you can keep everyone updated and follow your friends.

Typing has been much improved. Not only does the keypad predict what you are attempting to type, it will learn over time to become even better at guessing your thoughts. As you’ve come to expect, the iPod Touch knows which way you’re holding it and reorients the screen appropriately.

The iPod Touch is more than just an iPhone that doesn’t make calls. It is a fully featured, miniature media portal that allows you to search, view and share with friends. It also makes an excellent personal gaming platform. At the same time, you can choose to fill it with productivity apps and get more done at work. It is one of the few devices available that can delight users of all ages.

Wi-Fi Internet Blu-Ray Players from Panasonic

There are two big trends going on right now in the realm of home DVD players. One of those trends is the introduction of 3D viewing at home. The other big move is adding Internet capabilities to DVD players. Panasonic has released a line of Wi-Fi enabled Blu-Ray DVD players that allow both Internet access and streaming media.

The new Panasonic DVD players have a sleek, streamlined look. The push toward making players smaller and more energy efficient has really paid off with these new models. One nice feature is that the player automatically switches off whenever the TV is off. At the same time, not every player is perfect. For example, a memory card slot would be a nice addition that would allow for more easily playing back some of your own video.

Obviously the Blu-Ray technology is going to provide a superior playback experience. The color system far surpasses what you might be used to with a regular DVD player. The new Panasonic models offer 1080/24p playback and astounding picture quality. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the Blu-Ray format is quickly taking over the DVD shelves in most stores.

You might be surprised just how much a Wi-Fi connection adds to a DVD player. Once you get the player hooked into your home network, you can stream videos from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon and more. And don’t forget Fancast, Hulu and whatever other new video streaming site has launched this week. All in all, having an Internet enabled Blu-Ray player vastly multiplies your entertainment choices.

If you’re ready to step up to the world of Blu-Ray quality and Internet choices, then you will do well with any Panasonic player that includes Wi-Fi. In most cases, setup is a snap. After you’ve made the player part of your network, you can access a whole new world of entertainment content. Although prices for these capabilities were initially high, they are becoming more affordable every day. Your best bet is to shop using the Internet to compare prices on similar models. And don’t forget the auction sites; sometimes you can snag some really great deals.
